Stanley Tomchin Gives Another Generous Donation to Greenpeace
Author: admintech | Filed under: Press ReleaseSANTA BARBARA, CA–(Marketwired – Apr 22, 2014) – Last week Greenpeace blocked the Alma, a ship that carried 2,000 tons of whale meat, from entering the port of Durban. The vessel was on its way from Iceland to Japan to deliver fin whale meat in Tokyo. Plans to stop in Durban to refuel went awry after more than 23,000 South Africans joined Greenpeace and requested port authorities to refuse entrance and service to the Alma. Greenpeace is now prompting the South African government to increase the pressure on other ports along the African shore to turn away the ship once it approaches the coast again. Michael O’brien Onyeka, Executive Director of Greenpeace Africa, commented on this week’s events: “Whale meat — just like rhino horn — is illegal in South Africa. The shipping company underestimated South African citizens’ commitment to abolish the trade of illegal and endangered species and wildlife. Now, the vessel has left South African waters without the possibility to refuel.”
